Last year before election time I wrote a letter to the editor in this same newspaper and Mr. Mills was kind enough to print it. It was a plea to gun owners of Michigan to not vote for Obama and Biden if they truly believed in our Bill of Rights and were pro Second Amendment. On the Morning Sun website I was bashed by a few people for being an alarmist, and that after the D.C vs. Heller decision we would never have to worry about more gun laws, and of course we all heard Mr. Obama say he was pro gun right?
Now, as reported by ABC news on February 25, 2009, Attorney General Eric Holder, one of the most anti-gun politicians ever, "As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons." Now for you not familiar with firearms let me explain the differnece between an "assault weapon" as defined by the original Clinton AWB instituted in 1994 and expiring in 2004. This means semi-automatic firearms that have one or a combination of the following: First off if it carries the name Norinco, Mitchell and Poly Tech Avtomat Kalasnikovs, Action Arms Israeli Military Industries Uzi and Galil, Beretta AR70, Colt AR 15, FN/FAL, FN/LAR and FNC, SWD M-10,M-11, M11/9 and M-12, Steyr Aug, Intratec Tec-9. Remember these are all semi-autos, yes most of them have select fire counterparts, but without a special license and paying a $200.00 tax fee you cant legally own them. Some more items that make them an "assault weapon": Revolving cylinder shotguns and here is where it gets good, A semi automatic rifle that has at least 2 of the following; a folding or telescoping stock, a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon, a bayonet mount, a flash suppressor or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash suppressor, and a grenade launcher. Do any of the above items listed make a one rifle more deadly then another? The M1 Garand was the service rifle in WWII and on through Korea and even into Vietnam in limited left over numbers. It was called the"Greatest Battle Rifle Ever" by General Patton, seems like he would know right. Now the M1 garand in as issued condition, did not have a pistol grip, a flash suppressor, a collapsible or folding stock, or a grenade launcher, it does have a bayonet mount. It was also not made by any of the "evil" names above. Would these add ons make the Garand an even better battle rifle? I think theree are some WWII and Korea Vets who would give you an emphatic no! So we now have proven that the criteria above does nothing to make a rifle more deadly. Ok back on point. Holder said that putting the ban back in place would not only be a positive move by the United States, it would help cut down on the flow of guns going across the border into Mexico, which is struggling with heavy violence among drug cartels along the border. "I think that will have a positive impact in Mexico, at a minimum." Ok lets break this down. Holder is trying to tell us that the Mexican nationals that run the drug cartels are buying legal semi auto weapons here in America for extremely inflated prices and smuggling them back across the border...hmmm..wait..if they bought them legally they wouldn't have to smuggle them right? And how do Mexican citizens buy guns legally in America? And why would they buy them here when they can buy them on the black market, probably select fire(which means full auto capable, which assault weapons are not) and pay way less for them? Boy no wonder Mexico is going broke. Remember the only people laws affect are law abiding people, I'm sure these drug cartels are buying all their firearms legally while they ship thousands of tons of ILLEGAL drugs across our border, kill border agents and cops, and kidnap and behead people for ransom. Yeah that makes sense. Second part of the quote "I think that will have a positive impact in Mexico, at a minimum."..So enacting legislation against American citizens that violates their Second Amendment and outlaws hundreds of sporting firearms,is going to be good for the US....oh no wait I mean good for Mexico? So he wants to punish the American people who took an oath to protect, to make things better in Mexico? And finally here is a warning the State Department issued to travelers "Some recent Mexican army and police confrontations with drug cartels have resembled small-unit combat, with cartels employing automatic weapons and grenades," the warning said. Does anyone see the problem here? Eric Holder is saying that banning semi automatic firearms in America, which the gangs are arming themselves with supposedly, will help curb the violence, but yet the State Department says they are armed with grenades and AUTOMATIC weapons, neither of which the proposed AWB would cover because they are all ready covered since 1968. I hope this makes sense to some of you because I think it is absolute B.S. To everyone who wants to argue with me on this, do me a favor, do some research, and not NBC or ABC or Fox polls. Go to the Dept of Justice website and go back through the stats on violent crimes, you will find that a single digit percentage of violent crimes are committed with so called "Assault Weapons" These are actual facts. That's why Holder is spreading this big pile of manure about "curbing the violence in Mexico" because the last time they did this the facts didn't support the action that they took. Think for yourself guys and gals, do the research, use some common sense for God’s sake. The folks in Washington work for us, they are sworn to do what the majority of American people want. More laws and rules and restrictions and government interference in our lives is not what we want is it? And one last thing, look at every major genocide in the last century in the world, and see what directly preceded it, it was firearms confiscation and outlawing of certain types of firearms. Don't buy what Washington is selling you. Start making our voices heard. Stand up for what you know is right. |
